PITEA, SWEDEN
Carson called me this morning while watching the Travel Channel. He was watching a show with Samantha Brown (she is such a great host) where she was ranking the best drive-thru restaurants in the world. Number four on the list was a drive-thru McDonald's in Pitea, Sweden. Pitea is a town 465 miles north of Stockholm (above the polar circle). (FYI: People in Pitea see approximately 4 hours of sunlight daily and a 3 p.m. sunset.) In this frozen tundra, snowmobiles are the usual means of transportation. There are about 7,000 of these vehicles registered in the town. When resident Eva Olson opened her McDonald's, she realized that people needed a snowmobile path to get there. Not only did she build it, she went one step further: Olson built the first McWindow (i.e. a snowmobile drive-thru). You gotta eat quickly — in these temps, your burgers and fries cool off fast!

Wow! A snowmobile drive-thru McDonald's! I don't think I could live somewhere where there was that little daylight per day -- I'd be very depressed!!
